MASSERIA BERZARIO

Organic farm: the true taste of the Salento countryside

Organic farm was the initiative of the agronomist Dr. Italo Poti who had a farsighted vision of the importance of product quality and the use of organic farming in Puglia.

The Berzario farm was born in the 1990s, #223 of organic farming businesses register and certified by the CCPB – Consortium for Organic Products Control of Bologna, the certifying body created following the directives of the decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests of companies in the sector. MASSERIA BERZARIO

Puglia organic farm: a sustainable vision

Since 1992, the olive trees of the Masseria Berzario have been cultivated according to organic farming criteria and the fruits are protected with techniques aimed at enhancing the taste and fully respecting the land.

The extra virgin olive oil is particularly valuable, because the olives are harvested from October, in order to preserve all their fruity taste.

The sweet fragrance of the olives is accompanied by a slight spicy and bitter taste, then it merges and intensifies in the typical flavour of the fresh perfumed oil.

MASSERIA BERZARIO

Farmhouse in Salento

In the Masseria Berzario garden we grow all the main seasonal vegetables: all the crops are sustainable and brighten up the characteristic Salento landscape with the vivacity of their colours.

The company cultivates: strawberries, mulberries, apricots, figs and prickly pears, pomegranates, plums, cherries, lemons, oranges, tangerines, medlars, persimmons, melons and watermelons, which can be enjoyed freshly picked directly from the tree, according to the season, or in special jams (orange, strawberry, apricot, mulberry and fig). The jams are prepared by expert hands, only with fruit from our garden which is harvested when ripeness guarantees maximum sweetness.

A particular way of enjoying these fruits is to pick them directly from the tree or plant, in order to rediscover a taste that is now unusual in terms of intensity and persistence.

The vegetable garden consists of: tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, courgettes, onions, fennel, chicory, celery and aromatic herbs such as mint, basil, sage, rosemary, bay leaf and parsley.
